Dear Readers,

The comments some of you made after reading Wilderness Refuge have been so encouraging to me that I hope you will share your thoughts for others to enjoy. And perhaps you will inspire them as you have inspired me.

With appreciation, Cheryl

  1. Hey Cheryl, Am I posting a comment right now?? If I've figured out how to do so and your other friends haven't they must be older and even LESS computer literate than I which I find pretty hard to believe...at least the "less computer literate" part. :)
More seriously, I did enjoy Wilderness Refuge so when is the next installment coming out??

  4. What I liked about this book is that it offers such a personal and vivid chronicle of what was an amazing time in history. Compares favorably to the works of Taylor Caldwell in its level of detail. - Mary Campbell-Droze

  5. My favorite literary genre is historical fiction, and Wilderness Refuge certainly is rich with history. The characters drew me into their world, making the place and time come alive. Their personalities continue to pop up, like old friends I haven't seen in years.

Also, I lead several Bible studies, for which an understanding of history can be very useful. My grasp of the relationships and demeanor of the people whom Ms. Toliver revealed in her novel have been very helpful in my classes. An awareness of the religious sects, political and religious conflicts of the time, and hierarchy of the government has been invaluable. Thank you for sharing the story with us.

  6. Cheryl, I found your book interesting and well-researched. The details of life in the period, from details about houses or gardens to the differences in customs and the political climate, were very interesting.
The list of characters and their relationships, an historical time line, a glossary, and information about the rulers help the reader place the characters in the period.
The historical figures make the story come alive. But the most compelling characters are the fictional ones. Their lives intertwine in interesting relationships. The characters exhibit a wide range of emotions, and I can't wait to find out how the story will play out. I wonder how Adonai will affect them.
I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to reading all your sequels. --Penne
